Federal authorities confirmed Saturday that they seized drugs, homemade weapons and electronic devices during a search of the jail where Sean “Diddy” Combs is being held on charges of sex trafficking conspiracy. The infamous rapper is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn and his case is set to go to trial next year.

The Bureau of Prisons, which led the interagency cleanup of the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, began the process Monday. The authority noted that the move was not related to Combs’ detention but was “pre-planned and coordinated to ensure the safety and security” of staff and inmates.

The prison houses 1,200 inmates and is under renewed surveillance after two men were fatally stabbed last summer. Five inmates were later charged with murder in the case. Meanwhile, four other detainees and a guard were also charged with assault over an incident in which a man was stabbed 44 times by three gang members.

The infamous detention center

In recent years, the detention center has held Jeffrey Epstein’s co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell and is currently holding cryptocurrency scammer Sam Bankman-Fried along with Combs. In the past, Diddy’s lawyers have asked for bail due to poor prison conditions.

As the music impresario faces more than a dozen civil claims of sexual assault, he has asked the 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals to grant his release after two separate Manhattan judges twice denied bail. The discussion about this will take place on Monday.

Meanwhile, the US Department of Justice said the requests were “a thinly veiled attempt to limit the government’s evidence at this early stage of the case and hijack the criminal proceedings so that the suspect can respond to civil lawsuits” and “poses to witness safety”.

Previously, American tabloid TMZ, published what was reportedly a nondisclosure agreement that Combs asked partygoers to sign before attending one of his infamous gatherings, or “freak offs.” The document prohibited the signatories from taking photos, filming or recording Diddy or anyone around him without his written permission. The NDA also names specific social media sites where visitors cannot post photos without Combs’ permission.
