Man dies by suicide after daughter ‘runs away’ with village youth

A man died by suicide after jumping into a water tank after his 18-year-old daughter allegedly eloped with a village youth in Kitlana village of Bhiwani district on Saturday morning.

The family alleged that the victim Manjeet Singh (40) was upset after his daughter fled from home with a village youth after he lured her. Police registered a case of abetment to suicide under Section 108 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against eight residents of the same village on the complaint of the victim’s brother and initiated investigation.

According to complainant Sandeep, his elder brother Manjeet’s daughter went missing on October 19. The family filed a complaint with the police, suspecting that a village youth had lured the girl and fled the village. The complainant alleged that the police had made no effort to search for the girl despite requests from the family.

The complainant said that the youth, Rahul, had taken the girl and his (Rahul’s) family allegedly said that they would keep the girl in their house as Rahul’s wife. The complainant said the thought of getting his daughter married to a youth from the same village made him take the extreme step as he could not bear the pressure. He went to the waterworks and jumped to his death in the tank. His body was found floating in the water pipe on Saturday. The police have registered a case against Rahul, Gaje Singh, Robin, Burmati, Jai Singh, Renu, Ravinder and Rinku and have started an investigation.
