Twenty retired military officers met Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior General Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan in the capital yesterday (Nov 2).

During the meeting, they discussed the overall situation of the country, according to the BNP office.

In September last year, the retired military officers joined BNP as they were imbued with nationalist ideology.

The retired military officers opined that retired military officers can be involved in the needs of the country and strengthen BNP as a political party.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that during the regime of fascist Sheikh Hasina, many judges spoke like politicians.

From former judge Shamsuddin Manik’s conversations, it appeared that he was a presidium member of the Awami League, he said.

The former intelligence agency chief gifted a sword to a former chief justice and Chhatra League activists gave him a bouquet, Rizvi said, adding that there is no such example in the world.

The BNP leader said: “We will have to protect independence and sovereignty on the one hand, but on the other hand we will have to ensure multi-party democracy. We will have to march forward on these two issues.”

On the border issue with India, Rizvi said border killings take place regularly. Bordering areas in Thakurgaon, Lalmonirhat and Habiganj are witnessing bloodshed at regular intervals of one or two days, he added.

The BNP leader said the bodies of young girls like Felani were hung on barbed wire, but the previous government did not protest against a single killing.

Brigadier General (Retd) Md Jahurul Alam, Col (Retd) Abdul Haque, Lt Col (Retd) Ayub, Lt Col (Retd) Hasinur Rahman, Lt Col (Retd) Nawroz, Lt Col (Retd) Mustafiz, Lt Colonel (retd) Rashed, Major (retd) Korban Ali and Major (retd) Sabbir were present at the meeting, among twenty ex-military officers.
