What Travis Hunter told Nick Saban about the Heisman campaign

Travis Hunter’s playmaking ability has defined college football this season, turning heads with his exceptional versatility on both ends of the court. Hunter is known for exciting fans by catching touchdowns or shutting down opponents defensively. Hunter’s dual-threat talent has positioned him as a serious Heisman Trophy contender.

However, fans didn’t see him in action this past week due to Colorado’s second bye week. But Hunter didn’t just rest: He embarked on a “world tour” of sorts, making a high-profile appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay and FOX Big Noon Kickoff in Happy Valley before No. 3 Penn State lost to No. 4 Ohio State.

On GameDay, the panel of hosts lightheartedly embraced Hunter as the Heisman frontrunner. The Buffs’ two-way star shared some insights into his life off the field and talked about a recent fishing trip with Deion Sanders in Texas. Reflecting on the break, Hunter emphasized the special father-son dynamic he experiences with Sanders, noting that their bond has played an important role in his growth both as a player and as a person.

Hunter also received notable support from Nick Saban. The former Alabama coach candidly asked Hunter about his approach to the demanding schedule of a dual role player, explaining that he had seen many talented players with the potential to go either way, but had never successfully translated that into game scenarios. Saban asked, “How do you prepare every week to play both ways?”

Hunter’s response revealed his pro-level mentality. He begins each week with at least ten hours of film study and offensive drills with unwavering dedication and gives his best regardless of whether he is on offense or defense. “I will give 100%, no matter who is in front of me, and I will not get tired,” he confidently declared, underscoring his relentless focus and dedication.

While he remains “locked in” for an exceptional college run, Hunter continues to chase history and accolades. With Colorado facing Texas Tech on November 9, the football world is eagerly awaiting to see what this standout athlete will accomplish next in his Heisman pursuit.
