Viktor Gyokeres responds to Manchester United rumors

Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres has responded after being questioned about following Ruben Amorim to Manchester United.

Manchester United confirmed the appointment of Ruben Amorim Friday after the Red Devils decided to part ways Erik ten Hag with the club languishing in 14th place in the Premier League.

Amorim was asked this week about United’s interest and will take charge of the club after the November international break.

The Portuguese manager will take on Ipswich Town, who are of course managed, at Portman Road Kieran McKenna. It appears another Sporting Lisbon star has been quizzed over a possible move to Old Trafford.

Viktor Gyokeres on the move from Manchester United

While all the attention this week has been on Amorim, who will take up his role as United manager on November 11, transfer interest talks will soon follow.

Amorim becomes the head coach so how much say he has over transfers will certainly be an interesting topic of conversation. That seems unlikely Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos would grant another manager as much transfer power as Erik ten Hag was allowed.

It seems unlikely that a new striker will be high on the list at Old Trafford Rasmus Hojlund And Joshua Zirkzee occupying those roles in the squad, but that has not stopped the speculation about Gyokeres.

“I don’t know,” Gyokeres said of a possible move to Old Trafford 90min. “I’m here, and I really enjoy being here. It’s not something I think about. I like it here.

“It is of course not a normal situation. But we won 5-1 and the team responded very well. We are professionals and we must continue like this.

“We are sad to see (Amorim) leave; he is a great professional; he was fantastic for us, but we have to adapt. It is difficult to talk about the future, but we will definitely do the same work and continue to do our best. We wish him the best. It’s very good for him.”

United must take the lead in transfer matters under Ruben Amorim

What is clear is that Amorim, unlike Ten Hag, has been appointed head coach, which means that the possibilities for his role at the club will be smaller.

It appears that Amorim will only be in charge of the tactical side and match management, but transfer activities will be in the hands of the board and directors.

Jason Wilcox, Then Ashworth and Christopher Vivelli will be in charge of transfers and unless the current standout crop fails to live up to expectations, a move for Gyokeres seems unlikely to happen.
