Excessive rainfall and isolated severe storms are possible.

QUAD CITIES, IA/Ill. (KWQC) – The rain will continue through the morning hours on Sunday, with some areas receiving significant rainfall. The first rain shower will move out of the region by the afternoon, giving us a brief break before our next, more robust rain shower arriving Sunday night into Monday. Temperatures will remain steady in the low to mid 60s.

There is a chance of heavy rain and heavy to severe thunderstorms on Monday. This means that Monday is a FIRST ALERT DAY.

Heavy rain will move through the region Monday morning, with the heaviest activity east of the river. We will have a short break before showers and storms develop again in the afternoon hours. A few storms could become severe, with damaging winds and a brief tornado or two possible. The Storm Prediction Center has areas along and south of I-80 at a Level 1 risk for severe storms.

The biggest concern for Monday will be the chance of very heavy rain. It’s not out of the question that localized areas could reach as much as 6 inches of rain when all is said and done. While this will dramatically improve our drought conditions, it could cause flooding in some low lying areas and roads. With a brief lull in activity expected on Sunday afternoon, take some time to check your basement pumps. Another quick task that can limit flooding is making sure all your drains are clear of leaves and debris.
