A 6-year-old girl was seriously injured in a crash on Sunrise Highway

A 6-year-old girl has been identified by police as the victim seriously injured in Saturday’s crash on Sunrise Highway.

Authorities say a driver traveling west on a highway in Bohemia lost control of his car, struck the median, left the roadway and struck a tree.

During the action, the child was thrown from the car the crashthe police said. She remains in critical condition in hospital on Sunday morning.

Traffic was then at a standstill for hours. Drivers had to take a detour via smaller roads, causing traffic jams and gridlock in nearby neighborhoods.
