Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev stated that Ukraine’s entry into NATO could trigger World War III.

Since the start of the war in Ukraine, Medvedev has stepped up his fiery social media posts, often making threats about Russia’s nuclear weapons and describing the conflict as a fight between Russia and NATO.

Although it is not clear to what extent his views correspond with the Kremlin’s thinking, he expressed his anti-Western sentiments again during an interview with Russian propaganda channel RT, mentioning former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

According to state news Tass, the former president had a conversation with RT and said: “Shortly before his death, already at a very mature age, he (Kissinger) suggested as if with some regret that we now have no choice but to accept Ukraine. in NATO.”

“I think he was still wrong about this, there is no such predestination. Because choosing between some promises and the possibility of starting a third world war, the choice is still quite clear,” he added.

A key aspect of Ukraine’s long-term goal is joining NATO, which was part of the victory plan shared by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his visit to the United States in September.

Moreover, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte calls the presence of North Korean troops in Ukraine a “significant escalation”.

On the other hand, the US, which gives the weapons to Ukraine, has banned their use for attacks deep inside Russia to avoid the escalation that Russia and Medvedev warned about.
