‘Hearts had to fight for victory’

‘Hearts had to fight for victory’

We asked for your thoughts on Hearts’ 2-1 win against St Johnstone in the Scottish Premier League.

This is what some of you said:

Colin: Another halfway decent performance, but still lacking in the final third. We need to start killing teams. Lawrence Shankland’s touch in front of goal let him down, but he still contributes with assists and general play. It’s a work in progress and I think we have a tough season ahead. Hopefully we can get into the top six and make a cup run.

Max: Beni Baningime was the man of the match for me, he had a bad season last year, but this season he is back to the days when he first joined the club. Hearts had to fight for the win. They have played better, but at this point I will take all the points, no matter what, to move up.

Steven: Big three points for Hearts and Neil Critchley. One defeat in four games now and that defeat was our own fault. There were some tough games on the schedule, so this win was crucial. Baningime shows his quality, but he is injured too often. When he plays we are a better team, but he is injured so often. Probably why he’s at Hearts and not Everton.

Bennie: The manager needs to figure out how to get the team to play the way they did after St Johnstone equalised. We bombarded them for ten minutes until we reached the goal, after which we sat back again. If we could keep up that intensity through the first part of the games, we could score a few and put them to bed. Grateful to have Beni back – he keeps us ticking!

Anon: Shankland is seriously lacking in confidence, desperate to score a goal. Once he finds his touch, it will set the team on fire. Beni shows how important he can be, currently the only midfielder who can turn under pressure and run past a few and grab a ball. We should see more of this from Blair Spittal and Yan Dhanda. Where did Musa Drammeh and Andres Salazar disappear to?

Charlie: An ugly victory, but a victory nonetheless. A good start, but it is clear that the players are getting tired as the tough schedule takes its toll. Despite the reinforcement with Europe in mind, we still have a shortage of reliable players. The VAR intervention is confusing as wrestling at corners is endemic to the Scottish game. Baningime is a class player.

Alexander: A good Hearts win, I like how animated Neil Critchley was on the sidelines. We have tough games ahead of us in November, but we have been given a fortune and there is a real sense of excitement about the European games.

Jamie: Difficult game. Get the win out of it. But a win is a win and we get the three points. Still think that many players in the selection are not good enough to wear the badge, but on to the next match as they say.
