Two arrests on suspicion of attempted murder

A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 74-year-old man was seriously injured in Antrim, police said.

The pensioner was approached by the pair on Station Road in the city shortly after 7.30pm GMT on Saturday.

The pensioner was hit in the head by the man, causing him to become unconscious.

He was taken to hospital for treatment of serious head injuries and remains in critical condition.

A 21-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in custody.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.
