Loop 202 Red Mountain closed due to fatal crash in Tempe

TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) – A fatal crash closed a busy East Valley highway early Sunday morning.

The collision occurred around 4 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the Loop 202 Red Mountain near Scottsdale Road. While details are limited at this time, DPS troopers confirmed that one person has died.

It is unclear how many vehicles were involved in the wreck.

The highway stretching from Scottsdale Road to Loop 101 Pima is closed, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

There is no estimated time to reopen the highway. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
