ALPENA, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) – A man died by suicide after fleeing on foot from a traffic stop in Alpena.

At 2:38 p.m. Saturday, police alerted law enforcement to “be on the lookout for a reckless driver,” Alpena police said in a statement.

The vehicle was later found near McRae Park and a traffic stop was attempted.

According to police, the driver, a 47-year-old man, got out of the car and ran into a home.

Police said that after a short time in the home, the man left the house and “ran a short distance before ultimately killing himself.”

Police said an investigation into the incident is ongoing and the man’s identity has not yet been released out of respect for his family.

Police said Michigan State Police assisted officers in the incident.
