Police prevent the shipment of two illegal migrant workers to Malaysia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Tangerang City Metro Police arrested a man identified as ‘AWS’, 40 years old, at AMD Neglasari Street, Tangerang City. The man was going to send two women migrant workers Unpleasant Malaysia illegal.

The arrest was carried out on November 1, 2024 by the Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force (TPPO) of the Tangerang City Metro Police. “The task force was led by the head of the Criminal Investigation Unit Chief, Commissioner David Yunior Kanitero,” the City of Tangerang said. The two migrant workers who were arrested are DM and Y. They left from Pekanbaru Riau Airport and were supposed to fly to Malaysia via Soekarno-Hatta Airport. AWS acted illegally as a distributor of migrant workers. He is suspected of using this practice since 2020 and has sent around 100 employees to various countries such as Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Malaysia.

The arrest began when the TPPO task force received information about the location of an illegal or non-procedural shelter and distributor for migrant workers in the Neglasari area. “During the investigation, we saw two women leaving the shelter on their way to Soekarno-Hatta airport, so we detained them,” he said.

AWS has been declared a suspect. He is charged under Article 2 of Law No. 21 of 2007 on TPPO with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison, under Article 81 Jo 69 of Law No. 18 of 2017 on the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers with a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to Rp 15 billion.
