AMBER Alert issued for 12-year-old Texas boy missing since July

Authorities inside Texas are still searching for a 12-year-old boy who has been missing since July and are now calling on the public to help in the case.

An AMBER Alert has been issued for the missing boy, identified as Connor Young, who was described by Crandall police as black with brown eyes, 6 feet tall and 100 pounds.

According to the alert, Young was last seen at Block 2800 Lolita Way in Heartland, Texas, a Kaufman County community about 25 miles from Dallasand that his last sighting was on July 4.

The alert was issued late Friday across Texas, declaring the case as urgent and seeking the public’s help in locating the child. AMBER Alerts are reserved for cases where a child is believed to be at serious risk, often when they are believed to be near someone who could pose potential danger. The alert system, also called emergency child abduction alert, was created after the 1996 murder of 9-year-old Amber Rene Hagerman in Arlington, Texas.

The Dallas police announced this Facebook Sunday morning that it would assist in the search for both Connor and his mother Dorcas Young, writing: “The Dallas Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Dorcas and Connor Young. Dallas Police are assisting Kaufman County in locating Dorcas and Connor Young. locating Dorcas Young and her son Connor Young.”

Law enforcement officials have emphasized that the longer Connor Young remains missing, the more critical the situation becomes, given the long period without contact.

According to the alert, Connor was last seen with his mother Dorcas, described as a 42-year-old black woman who is 6 feet tall and weighs 230 pounds. Dorcas Young is now a suspect and is wanted in connection with Connor’s disappearance.

Dorcas is reportedly driving a black 2023 GMC Yukon with Texas license plate SNH9831. People are urged to contact 911 or the Crandall Police Department at 469-376-4500 if they have any information about the Youngs.

Newsweek has contacted Crandall Police for more information on the case and to inquire as to why the AMBER Alert was only issued on Friday when Connor has been missing for four months.

Crandall police said this NBC On October 5, they reported receiving a call on October 30 from an AT&T employee who said Dorcas had sent Young disturbing messages about her mental health. Authorities visited Dorcas’ home in Heartland but found no one home. On Nov. 2, Dorcas’ daughter came to the Crandall Police Department to file a missing persons report for her mother, Connor, and a 19-year-old sibling.

Late Saturday night, Crandall police said Dorcas’ car was found at a Dallas hotel, according to NBC 5, and are continuing to search for the family.

Since the Amber Alert system is designed to quickly reach a broad audience, law enforcement hopes the increased public awareness will prompt anyone with information to come forward.
