CM Sukhu visits Balika Ashram and announces Rs 25k for each prisoner

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu illuminated the Diwali season for young girls at Balika Ashram in Kalpa, Kinnaur district, with a heartfelt visit and generous gifts. Highlighting the state’s commitment to orphans, he announced a Diwali gift of Rs 25,000 for each inmate along with handing over tracksuits to them as a gesture of support and care.

Sukhu, in his address to the girls, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of orphans, whom he called “Children of the State.” The Prime Minister emphasized that the needs of these children, including education and essential expenses, are now fully in the care of the state. “Himachal Pradesh is pioneering as the first state to enact specific legislation aimed at safeguarding the welfare and rights of orphans. Our commitment is to ensure that these children have access to education, healthcare and all the support they need to shape a successful future,” he said.

The Prime Minister warmly engaged with the girls, encouraging them to focus on their education and promising full government support to help them achieve their dreams. He inspired them to remain ambitious and ensure that their well-being and ambitions are at the heart of the state’s objectives. “You are the children of Himachal Pradesh, and we are here to guide and support you every step of the way,” he remarked, earning a genuine smile from his audience.

As part of his proactive approach, Sukhu Kinnaur directed Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Sharma to conduct regular surprise inspections at the Ashram to ensure that living conditions, facilities and services at the institution are of high standards and that any issues are addressed promptly addressed. This measure, he explained, was part of the government’s broader efforts to continuously improve welfare infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh.

The girls at the Ashram expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister by performing a cultural program in his honor, filling the atmosphere with lively displays of Kinnaur’s traditional music and dance. Their performance highlighted the spirit of resilience and unity that the Chief Minister’s visit sought to enhance, making the occasion unforgettable for all present.

To end his day in Kalpa, Sukhu visited the Bodh Temple where he offered prayers, further deepening his bond with the local community and its cultural heritage.
