APC, PDP debate agenda for governance – Politics – The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

With 13 days left until the upcoming off-cycle governorship on November 16 election In Ondo State, the flag bearers of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Agboola Ajayi, fought during a governorship debate organized by Channels Television on Sunday.

As they put it on their agenda for the people of the state for the next four years, the two frontline candidates who had served as deputies to the late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu were at each other’s neckline during the two-hour debate, working against each other. about their plans for the state.

According to Aiyedatiwa, who disclosed that the safety and security of the people of the state will be the key mandate, he promised that the economy of the state, especially agriculture, will also be prioritized.

While accusing his co-candidate, Ajayi, of inexperience in governance, the governor stated that Ondo State under his watch is already benefiting from the transfer of power from the Federal Government.

The governor also maintained that with the current composition of the Amotekun Corps, the security outfit is ready to transform into a state police force.

“Amotekun can trace the crime to its root cause and the force is ready to transform into a state police force. Nothing beats a N1.2 billion security vote. It’s a lie from the pit of hell. Security vote is a security issue and I cannot reveal it,” he said.

“There are industries in Ondo State including linyin industry where they convert cassava into ethanol and make textile materials.
We also have an industry that turns cocoa into chocolate. And they are exported.

“We have many investors who have shown interest in investing in agriculture in the state. They are interested in the state because of the peace that exists in the state. There are companies in which the government is not involved, but which does provide a facilitating environment. Investors are ready to invest in Ifon ceramics. We are clearing land to stimulate agriculture, especially cocoa.”

On his part, the PDP candidate, Ajayi, alleged that the governor had destroyed the legacy of their late boss, especially the Amotekun Corps. However, he promised to strengthen the security force if elected governor.

Ajayi also claimed that Aiyedatiwa had turned a blind eye to both the economy and the education sector.

“The poor people in Ondo State are more in number. What we rely on at Ondo is the collection of salaries. The cocoa industry of the state has not had a positive impact on the economy of the state,” he said.

“There is not a single palm oil mill in Ondo State. If I become governor, I will establish a solar glass factory to replace the defunct Oluwa glass.

“We will also invest in our local airport, which is a cargo airport, to increase agriculture and food security for the state. There is not a single tractor in the state, so the government is not willing to invest in agriculture.

“There is no development in Ilaje communities and the governor is from the area. When I am governor of Ondo in one or two years, I will initiate policies that will boost the cocoa industry in the state

“As governor, I will defund the Ministry of Local Affairs because it is criminal not to allow the local ministry as their business.

“Ondo State workers will be happier if I pay N76,000. I know how administration works better than Aiyedatiwa. I have been chairman of the local government, member of the House of Representatives, deputy governor and acting governor.”
