Man arrested after assaulting three people, including an MNPD officer

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man was arrested after attacking three people, including a Metro Nashville police officer, according to an arrest affidavit.

Officers responded to the Ole Smokey Distillery on 6th Avenue South on Saturday around 10 p.m. with complaints of a fight.

When officers arrived on scene, a security guard told them they had arrested a man, identified as Richard Shillinglaw.

The security guard said Shillinglaw was seen fighting an unknown person, so he tried to break up the fight. While intervening, Shillinglaw allegedly grabbed the guard by the chest and neck. The guard said they took Shillinglaw to the ground.

The affidavit said the guard handcuffed Shillinglaw after he tried to attack again.

Police also spoke with another alleged victim who said Shillinglaw harassed her and her friends. The victim said when they asked him to leave them alone, he threatened to attack her.

When Shillinglaw was placed in police custody, he began to resist. While officers were searching him, he kicked an officer twice and physically fought them.

During the struggle, the officer’s watch, valued at $600, was damaged, the affidavit said.

The affidavit stated that Shillinglaw appeared intoxicated.

Shillinglaw was charged with assault, fear of bodily harm and assault on a law enforcement officer and booked into the Davidson County Jail.
