Tech professional feared death after he was thrown into Yamuna during a high-speed crash on Delhi’s Kalindi Kunj Bridge

A 35-year-old tech professional is presumed dead after he was thrown into the Yamuna river during a high-speed collision on New Delhi’s Kalindi Kunj Bridge on Friday evening. His wife and 10-month-old daughter were injured during the incident, police said on Sunday.

According to a report by Indian Express, police said that Mohammad Shami, from Haldwani in Uttarakhand, was returning to Abul Fazal Enclave near Shaheen Bagh with his family after visiting relatives in Noida when a speeding car rear-ended their motorcycle around 8:30 p.m. collided.

The collision forcefully threw Shami over the bridge’s guardrail into the river, while his wife, Arshi Rafiq, 30, and their daughter suffered spinal and leg fractures respectively. They are currently under treatment.

A search operation involving police, divers and a boat club rescue team has been underway since Friday evening to find Shami, a police officer said, adding that the car driver may have been under the influence of alcohol.

“An FIR was registered against the car driver under Sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Kalindi Kunj police station. He has been identified and efforts are on to arrest him,” the police officer added.

Mumbai man dies after jumping from Atal Setu Bridge

In a separate incident, a 38-year-old engineer from Mumbai jumped from the Atal Setu Bridge on Wednesday afternoon (July 24). The entire incident was captured on CCTV footage, which showed the man stopping his Tata Nexon on the Mumbai Trans Harbor Link and attempting suicide by climbing onto the railing and jumping to his death.

The man has been identified as K Shrinivas, an engineer and a resident of Dombivili, news agency PTI reported.

His relatives claimed he was struggling to make ends meet. They suspect that financial problems were the reason for his drastic step, the report said. He left his home around 11:30 last night.
