Louisiana-Monroe assistant Cameron Blankenship apologizes after side incident with player

Louisiana-Monroe offensive line coach Cameron Blankenship posted an apology on social media after a heated sideline interaction with one of his players during a loss to Marshall on Saturday.

“I would like to sincerely apologize for my actions during Saturday’s game,” Blankenship wrote. “I acknowledge that my physical contact with a player was inappropriate, and I take full responsibility for that. I appreciate the trust of our players and there are no excuses for my actions. I am determined to learn from this incident. I appreciate the support of our team and am committed to creating a positive and respectful environment for everyone moving forward.”

During the game, Blankenship was seen on camera yelling at offensive lineman Drew Hutchinson. Blankenship ran after Hutchinson and appeared to push him to the sideline as he continued to berate him, eventually forcing him to be led away by another player.

Louisiana-Monroe released a statement after the game addressing the incident and stating that disciplinary action would be taken against Blankenship.

“This behavior is unacceptable and not the way ULM football does business,” the statement read in part.

Louisiana-Monroe fell to 5-3 (3-2 Sun Belt) in the first season under head coach Bryant Vincent with the loss to Marshall. It returns to action in Week 11 against Texas State.
