Derek Carr on Michael Thomas says: I don’t know what I did to him

After Saints wide receiver Chris Olave suffered a concussion early in Sunday’s game against the Panthers on a pass from Derek Carr, former Saints wideout Michael Thomas sent a series of tweets criticized Carr for the throw.

Thomas called Carr “butt on my grandma” and said the Saints made a mistake in changing offensive coaches because Carr remains the problem in New Orleans. After the 23-22 loss was over, Carr was asked about Thomas’ comments.

Carr said intentionally endangering a receiver is “something I would never intentionally do to a teammate,” and said it makes him “sick” when a player gets injured while trying to catch a pass. Carr said he wishes “it would never have happened” and that he could have made Thomas happier when they were teammates, but that he is unsure why Thomas holds him in such low regard.

‘I’ve had it so many teammates over the years and he’s the only guy who couldn’t get along with me,” Carr said, via ESPN.com’s Katherine Terrell. ‘And I don’t know what I did to him. I don’t know why he feels this way. I’m sorry for whatever he’s dealing with that makes him feel like he has to. Don’t know. But he never called me through all of this. My phone number has never changed. I actually called him several times. Just to try. And sometimes you can try as hard as you want, but it just doesn’t work out. And that’s okay, so I don’t know why he feels that way. I haven’t seen it. I won’t see it. Because I always ignore everything, good and bad. I try to ignore everything. It’s a shame. Especially when you have such a player. But I wish him the best. I hope he gets on a team and does what he wants to do and enjoys it.”

The Saints have lost seven games in a row, so there would be a lot of bad feelings surrounding the team if not for injuries, and Olave’s demise only made Sunday more painful for everyone involved.
