Man arrested for allegedly kidnapping ex-girlfriend in El Monte

WESTMINSTER, California.A kidnapping suspect is in custody after authorities began a slow chase from the Santa Fe Springs area to Westminster on Saturday evening, officials said.

Officers were notified of the alleged kidnapping just before 6 p.m. by a friend of the victim, who reported her location to police via the “Find My iPhone” app. The victim told her boyfriend that her ex-boyfriend showed up at her work with a gun and argued with her before forcing her into his car.

Officers attempted a traffic stop on the 5 Freeway near the Bandini exit, but the suspect did not stop, the CHP said.

The chase lasted nearly two hours and ended on the 405 Freeway at Springdale Street in Westminster after the car stopped on the freeway. The car’s two front tires were flat due to spike strips installed on the 605 Freeway in the Cerritos area.

SkyFOX showed at the scene that the suspected driver got out and surrendered. The woman was seen hugging the man before walking towards officers.

The suspect was taken into custody and is facing kidnapping and evading charges. His identity was not immediately released.

The woman was not injured.
