The teaser (below) debuted during Sunday night’s finale of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carolwhich the recently reunited zombie-fighting travelers in a tunnel on their way to London. With now the production of the already renewed third season in progress in Spain the big question is: how will Daryl and Carol end up there?

“I was ready to give up. I thought it was all over,” says Daryl (Norman Reedus) tells Carol (Melissa McBride) in the teaser. “You and me both,” she replies with the smile she can muster.

The new season will premiere in 2025 on AMC and AMC+.

Season three’s location filming spans the regions of Galicia, Aragon, Catalonia and Valencia, each offering a new and unique backdrop to the post-apocalyptic world. The hit AMC show moved from France, where season two was filmed.

Here is the logline: “Season three follows Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier as they continue their journey to somehow return home and to the ones they love. As they struggle to find their way back, the path leads them further astray, leading them through distant lands with ever-changing and unknown circumstances as they witness the various consequences of the Walker apocalypse.

When speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about the events of the finale, showrunner and executive producer David Zabel said the change in location gives the show a chance to reinvent itself, both on a story level and also from a cinematic feel.

“The characters are not allowed to relax. It should be a roadshow. They have to keep moving (to return home),” he said. “At the end of season two, they’re going somewhere. We don’t know precisely true, and it’s not a direct line to the next place they go. But the idea is to have the characters struggle and strive to get home and get moving.

On exploring a new culture, he said: “That’s going to be so exciting to reinvent the show. It felt like all signs were pointing to us moving on and reaching the next place. It could be a different place in seasons five and six. They keep moving until they get home!’

Although the Walking dead spin-off series has only been officially renewed through season three, Zabel says he has a long-term plan. ‘I talked to Norman about it. There is a very cool plan,” he said THR. “But we don’t even know yet if we’ll make season four.” He said the location changes are an opportunity to show audiences what the apocalypse is like in other parts of the world, but added: “at some point I can imagine some things being determined by some other characters ( in the franchise) do and where they are.”

Eduardo Noriega, Óscar Jaenada and Alexandra Masangkay join as series regulars in season three. Additional cast includes Candela Saitta, Hugo Arbués, Greta Fernández, Gonzalo Bouza, Hada Nieto, Yassmine Othman, Cuco Usín and Stephen Merchant.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season three is executive produced by franchise chief creative officer Scott M. Gimple, showrunner David Zabel, Reedus, McBride, Greg Nicotero, Brian Bockrath, Angela Kang, Jason Richman, Dan Percival and Steve Squillante, along with Silvia Aráez and Jesús de la Vega by Anima Stillking.
