SUV crashes into Topsfield Bakeshop

An SUV crashed into the entrance of a Topsfield bakery Sunday afternoon, according to the Topsfield Fire Department.

The North Shore Regional 911 Center received calls about the crash around 1:13 p.m., the department said in a message. statement posted on Facebook. No injuries were reported and a building inspector responded to the scene to assess the building’s safety, the department said.

The bakery, Topsfield Bakeshop, will be closed Monday on its usual schedule. It plans to open Tuesday morning with temporary doors, the department said.

Photos posted to social media show a Subaru Forester with its front end in the bakery’s now-hollow glass door, next to cement blocks and wood panels that have apparently become detached from the building’s exterior.

A Facebook user named Veronica Joy responded to the fire department’s post, saying she and her daughter were the only customers in the store when the accident occurred.

“Happily at the checkout and away from the door,” Joy wrote. “The employee responded quickly and asked us if we wanted to go behind the counter and exit through the back. Still, it was scary.”

Topsfield police are investigating the incident. No further information was available.
