Keane slams Man Utd man ‘made fun of’ by Palmer in sharp criticism

Man Utd legend Roy Keane insists Cole Palmer “fooled” Lisandro Martinez on Sunday as the Red Devils drew 1-1 with Chelsea.

The Red Devils continued their inconsistent form in the Premier League, with Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side drawn at Old Trafford.

A second-half penalty from Bruno Fernandes was canceled out just four minutes later by a Moises Caicedo strike to give Chelsea a share of the spoils.

Former Man Utd Midfielder Keane was generally disappointed by the Red Devils players on Sunday and was particularly angry about a tackle by Martinez on Palmer.

Keane thought Man Utd centre-back Martinez was “lucky” to stay on the pitch after a “nasty tackle” on Chelsea striker Palmer.

When asked about the incident, Keane replied: “He’s a happy boy. Honestly.

‘He won’t be happy if Cole Palmer makes fun of him, it’s a great piece of skill. And it’s a nasty tackle.

‘He’s a happy boy. He doesn’t catch it properly, it’s down the side of his leg. But if he were sent away, I would say no complaints.”

Fellow pundit Frank Lampard added; “I would say it’s a red card because of intent. He does get good contact with him. He knew he was late and said I would leave something for you.

Keane also expressed his frustration with Man Utd full-back Diogo Dalot and other players for “missing open goals”.

The Man Utd legend continued: “You’ve got to get these guys. Hit the target, these are big chances.

“These are top quality players who miss open goals. Dalot missed an opportunity last week and people keep telling me he’s a good player.

‘Put the ball in the back of the net and make sure your manager stays on the job for at least a few more weeks.’

But interim boss Van Nistelrooy – who will make way for Ruben Amorim on November 11 – insists “the goals will come” once Man Utd’s players regain their confidence.

Van Nistelrooy said: “(I think) today we are slightly disappointed because we didn’t score the second with the chances we had, that’s the feeling for me personally and also in the dressing room,” Ruud started in his post-match media duties.

“In the last (few games) we (have) played, we have lost some points, so we have not converted our chances.
“The great thing is always, and I think so, when you create a lot throughout the season so far, so in that sense I’m not too worried.

“When the players get into the flow of things, the results come, the confidence grows and the goals come.”
