It turns out that musician Noah Kahan can sell out more than concerts.

Less than two weeks after LL Bean announced a collaboration with the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, five of the eight items in the Northern Attitude Collection were out of stock.

Kahan was born in Vermont and currently lives in Watertown, Massachusetts. Paying tribute to his and L.L. Bean’s shared New England roots, the collection – which includes Bean boots, a tote bag, a zipper pouch, a chamois, an anorak jacket, a five-panel hat, a hoodie and a beanie – his name with a song from Kahan’s 2022 breakthrough album, “Stick Season.” The song has been streamed more than 347 million times on Spotify, while the title track has surpassed the 1.2 billion mark.

As part of the partnership, LL Bean donated $100,000 to Kahan’s mental health nonprofit, The Busyhead Project.

Kahan shared the news on Instagram, saying, “LL Bean thinks I’m hot, so we created a clothing line together.”

Kahan fan Aidan Scanlon, 27, from Jericho, Vermont, has been using bean bags since she was a child and wasn’t disappointed that her mother ruined her Christmas surprise when she found out she would be receiving a tote bag from the collection.

Scanlon, who works in youth education and mental health advocacy, said she was thrilled to know the Maine retailer is supporting Kahan and his Busyhead project.

“I discovered Noah Kahan in 2017 when I heard it ‘hurt someone’ on the radio and saw him live that same year,” she said. “I used to spend a lot of time driving to and from Boston, and Vermont, and the song ‘Rubbish,’ mentioning taking 89 to Boston became a running joke among my ski friends since you can’t actually take that route all the way there.”

The Pine Tree State has also found its way into Kahan’s lyrics. In 2020, he released the EP “Cape Elizabeth,” home to the song “Maine.”

Kahan’s most recent album is “Live from Fenway Park,” released on August 30 and featuring songs from Kahan’s sold-out shows at the Boston Red Sox ballpark on July 18 and 19.

Kahan’s next scheduled show is at the Out of the Blue Festival in Mexico in early January.

NEW MUSIC, NOW AND LATER

Portland alternative rock band Dead Gowns announced last week that it will release a 12-song debut album, It’s Summer, I Love You, and I’m Surrounded by Snow, on Valentine’s Day. released a new song and accompanying video called ‘How Can I’.

Dead Gowns is the nickname of Portland singer, guitarist, keyboardist and lyricist Geneviève Beaudoin.

The new song is the latest installment in Dead Gowns’ haunting, complicated oeuvre. Using synths, piano, horns and atmospheric percussion, Beaudoin weaves a delicate web of sound that is compelling and ends with an unexpected swell before floating down for a landing.

Beaudoin said “How Can I” sets the tone for the entire album. “It’s dark, romantic and disorienting.”

The song was written in 2017 and 2018, at a time when Beaudoin said she couldn’t tell a friend she was in love with them.

“I swallowed so much of my feelings and pushed this person and that desire away, and I think dishonesty led to a defeat in our relationship that was beyond repair,” Beaudoin said. “Over the years I’ve grown with the song and adapted it to other times when I couldn’t express myself directly.”

Since 2018, several singles and EPs have been released, including ‘New Spine’, ‘Renter Not a Buyer’ and ‘How’.

“It’s Summer, I Love You, and I’m Surrounded by Snow” takes its name from the last three lines of Eileen Myles’ poem “Shhh.”
