Gary Neville shares an honest assessment of Manchester United’s summer signing against Chelsea, the match was a ‘battle’ for him

Manchester United drew against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon and Gary Neville was concerned about the performance of one player.

Ruud van Nistelrooy managed to win a Premier League match for the first time after a week full of volatility Manchester United dug out.

United have fired Erik ten Hag last Monday and quickly announced his successor Ruben Amorim appointed the new United boss on Friday.

However, Amorim will only arrive and depart after the international break Van Nistelrooy will take charge of three more United games.

The first came on Sunday and United looked to be heading for a 1-0 win after Bruno Fernandes scored from the penalty spot.

However, Chelsea hit back through Moises Caicedo to hand the Blues a share of the win in a 1-1 draw.

Gary Neville is concerned about struggling Manchester United player

This was a fairly messy game and the moments of real quality were few and far between.

United continue to be wasteful in the final third and Manuel Ugarte did not fully take advantage of his opportunity in United’s engine room.

United fans have shared their concerns over Ugarte’s performance against Chelsea as the Uruguayan failed to impress.

Ugarte signed for United from Paris Saint-Germain on transfer deadline day in a deal that could reach £50 million.

Ugarte’s United career hasn’t started yet and fans are yet to see a return on that significant outlay.

After fouling Cole Palmer, Gary Neville told Air sports (03/11, 5:10 PM) that Ugarte really needs a consistent run of games in the United side.

Neville believes Ugarte hasn’t really had the chance to find his best form, but he could see that an outing against Chelsea was a ‘struggle’ for him.

“He just needs some games, Manuel Ugarte,” Marcel said. “He hasn’t had a chance to get going, it’s a struggle for him out there,” he added.

Manuel Ugarte stats against Chelsea

We saw Ugarte put in a strong performance at Fenerbahce Paul Scholes praised Ugarte for his best performance in a United shirt.

However, that hasn’t really helped Ugarte build momentum and the midfielder still seems a little off the pace in the Premier League.

The stats don’t look great when you look at how Ugarte played on Sunday, with his six fouls standing out; only Pervis Estupinan has committed more fouls in a Premier League match this season.

The transition from Ligue 1 to the Premier League is a tough one and Ugarte may need time to shine.

Fortunately, Ugarte will soon have a very familiar face to guide his development.

New boss Amorim made Ugarte a star at Sporting and helped him earn his big move to PSG in 2023.

Van Nistelrooy believes Ugarte will shine under Amorim and United fans will surely hope that is the case after another difficult afternoon.
