Camino walkers along the coast raise over £63,000 for PIPS Hope and Support – Armagh I

In an inspiring display of dedication and resilience, 35 individuals recently completed a seven-day journey along the Camino coast, covering more than 100 kilometers in challenging conditions, including high temperatures and altitudes, to raise crucial awareness and funds for PIPS Hope and support.

Thanks to the efforts of these walkers and the generosity of supporters, this incredible effort has raised £63,674.71 (after costs) to support the charity’s vital suicide prevention, mental health and bereavement services.

To underline the importance of this trip, the Mayor of Mijas officially welcomed the group and invited them to the council chambers to hear more about their experiences and express gratitude for their dedication to a cause that resonates in communities across the whole world.

As a show of goodwill and cultural exchange, the walkers presented the Mayor with a Newry, Morne and Down token, further strengthening the ties between the two communities.

PIPS Hope and Support, under the expert guidance of tour leader Jacqui Connolly, organized a special blessing for the walkers upon completion of their journey.

This event provided a reflective and spiritual moment, honoring the personal sacrifices each participant made in support of the charity’s mission.

Patricia Nutley, one of the participants, shared her thoughts on the experience, saying: “Walking the Camino was not just a personal challenge, but a meaningful journey for all of us, united by a common purpose. It was truly an emotional experience, knowing that every step contributed to such an important goal.

“The support we felt along the way – from each other, from the community at home and from everyone who donated – kept us going through the toughest moments. Being able to give back to PIPS, which does so much for our community, made every step worth it, and I am incredibly grateful to have been a part of something so impactful.”

Padraig Harte, fundraising, marketing and communications manager for PIPS Hope and Support, expressed his admiration and gratitude for the walkers’ contributions: “The dedication of these 34 individuals was nothing short of extraordinary.

“Each participant joined this journey for their own reasons, united by the desire to make a difference. Their efforts have not only raised vital funds, but also invaluable awareness about suicide prevention and mental health needs in our community.

“Their personal commitment and hard work really makes a difference to our charity, allowing us to continue to provide essential services to those in need. We couldn’t be more proud of each of them.

“As always, many thanks to Jacqui Connolly for her tireless support in making these trips truly special and unforgettable. Jacqui’s guidance, expertise and dedication are invaluable to our cause, and our Caminos simply would not be the same without her dedication and support.”
