Bloxwich school closed and fireworks went off when the pipe burst

Staff at Landywood Primary School in Great Wyrley said the school would have to close on Monday because there was no running water.

“This all happened at 5am this morning and after two and a half hours we still have no water,” principal Andrew Clewer said on the school’s Facebook page.

He added that the lack of water meant that meals could not be cooked and toilets could not be flushed.

Walsall Council said the fireworks show, which was due to take place at the King George V playing field in Bloxwich on Tuesday, would be canceled due to flooding from the burst main gate at the park’s main entrance.

Councilor Gary Flint said it would not be safe for the event to take place as additional tickets would be refunded.

South Staffs Water said properties in Bloxwich, Norton Canes, Great Wyrley and Cannock could at times lose their water supply or see low pressure and expected full supply to be restored by the end of Monday evening.

It added that a water collection point had been set up in a car park at the McArthurGlen outlet store in Cannock, while water drops would be carried out for people deemed priority cases.
