BAMBERG, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) – Disaster recovery centers will open in Barnwell and Bamberg counties to provide personalized assistance to South Carolina residents affected by Hurricane Helene.

On Monday, November 4, FEMA announced that a new recovery center will open in Barnwell County at the Barnwell Regional Airport from November 4 to 7 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

FEMA assistance

On Friday, the Bamberg County Board announced that the recovery center at the Bamberg County Library will be open from Nov. 5 at 8 a.m. until closing on Nov. 11.

The disaster recovery centers are temporary offices that provide support to affected areas and communities after natural disasters. FEMA representatives will be on site to answer questions and assist citizens with the application and filing process.

Other disaster assistance partners, such as the Small Business Administration and the Red Cross, may also be on hand to provide helpful information.

“The FEMA DRC will be much more in-depth than the DSA workshop we hosted a few weeks ago. We encourage property owners in Bamberg County who were negatively impacted by Hurricane Helene to take advantage of this opportunity and potentially receive FEMA assistance,” said Bamberg County Emergency Management Director Tiffany Kemmerlin.

On October 25 FEMA announced a recovery center would open in Edgefield County from Oct. 26 to Oct. 28 at the Edgefield Scout Hut Building on Penn Street.

The press release also stated that additional Disaster Recovery Centers will open in other South Carolina counties.
