Montgomery County Commission announces Kindell C. Anderson as new county administrator

The Montgomery County Commission has named Kindell C. Anderson as its new County Administrator, with his appointment effective November 1, 2024. Originally from LaGrange, Georgia, Anderson brings more than 15 years of experience in municipal leadership, particularly in government operations. financial management and strategic planning. He steps into this role following the retirement of Florence Cauthen, who had served as county administrator since 2020.

Prior to his promotion, Anderson served as Deputy Administrator, where he was responsible for managing the county’s $108 million budget, ensuring strict adherence to fiscal accountability standards and compliance with the Alabama Competitive Bid- and Public Works laws.

An alumnus of Alabama A&M University, where he earned both a BA in Political Science and a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning, Anderson has made significant contributions to Montgomery County’s key initiatives. His leadership has led several high-profile projects, including the $1.2 million reconstruction of the Flatwood Community Center, the $14 million renovation of the Montgomery County Courthouse and the administration of the $88 million American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds in partnership with the City of Montgomery. In addition, he was instrumental in securing a $40 million bond issue to renovate the county jail and detention facilities.

In his new role, Anderson plans to work closely with county leadership and community stakeholders to advance Montgomery County’s strategic goals. His focus will include improvements to public buildings, improvements to county parks and initiatives to stimulate economic development. His background in financial stewardship, cross-departmental coordination and policy development aligns with Montgomery County’s commitment to transparency and service excellence.

“I am very honored to take on this role,” said Anderson. “Montgomery County has made remarkable progress and I am eager to work with our team to continue serving our residents and position the county for a prosperous future.”

Outside of his professional duties, Anderson is actively involved in the community. He is a member of the 100 Black Men of Montgomery, Leadership Montgomery’s Legacy Class, and has held leadership positions within EMERGE Montgomery and the Landmarks Foundation for Old Alabama Town. He, his wife Jennifer and their son Slaton are dedicated members of the Montgomery community and reflect Anderson’s continued commitment to the region.
