Several people who served as fake voters in the plan to overturn the 2020 election, voters can be in the 2024 election despite being charged with a crime.

Politics reported Monday that in seven battleground states, eight of 93 potential Republican voters face criminal charges for their role in the scheme orchestrated by the former president Donald Trump’s campaign. Some of them continue to spread the lie that Trump won the 2020 election that he lost to the president Joe Biden. Politics wrote:

Instead of being punished or cast aside for their role in attempting to overturn democratic elections, they have been elevated. The Republican Party has rewarded those accused of misdemeanor crimes with a return to the coveted position they were accused of four years ago.

Despite the enormous losses suffered by election deniers at the ballot box, rejection of the latest presidential result remains a mainstream belief among GOP leaders in the states. A significant portion of these voters come from official state party apparatuses, including party chairs from Georgia, Nevada, and Arizona.

“It appears that in the states where fraudulent voters have returned to serve as electors, the party leadership is not taking seriously issues such as the criminal charges filed against these fraudulent voters,” he said. Mary McCordprofessor of law at Georgetown and executive director of the Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection.

Six of the eight people facing felony charges are in Michigan, where Biden won by more than 150,000 votes. Regardless of that outcome, John Haggard, Henk Choate, Timothy King, Meshawn Maddock, Amy FacchinelloAnd Marian Sheridan — according to charging documents — signed fake Electoral College certificates to try to undermine the legitimate results, “claiming that the state’s electoral votes went to Donald Trump.” All six may return as electors chosen by the Michigan Republican Party.

The other two fake voters accused of crimes are in the Nevada-Nevada GOP chair Michael McDonald and chairman of Clark County Jesse Law.

All those fake voters accused of crimes have pleaded not guilty.

Amy Tarkanianthe former Nevada Republican chairman, who is now an outspoken opponent of Trump, said the party leadership was “filled with crooks.” She added: “These people continued to spread not disinformation, which is accidental, but disinformation, which is intentional.”

Several people involved in the bogus election scheme entered into agreements to cooperate with prosecutors. Former Trump lawyer Jenna Ellis was originally charged for her role in overturning the 2020 election results in Arizona, but that charge was decreased in exchange for her cooperation. In Georgia, where Trump was indicted along with 18 co-defendants for attempting to overturn that state’s election results, multiple fake voters pointed to Trump and his campaign lawyers for convincing them to sign fake documents.

Many of the people who served as fake voters claimed they participated under the belief that they were performing a legitimate function of the federal government and were not knowingly committing fraud.
