SB 21’s defense is seriously misleading | Community perspectives

The recent defense of SB 21 offered on these pages by the four co-chairs of the 2014 “No on 1” campaign is seriously misleading. Ironically, in their so-called effort “to set the record straight and address the falsehoods swirling around Alaska oil taxes,” they are creating a big whopper of their own.

The core of their argument is that SB 21 — the oil tax bill that passed the Legislature in 2013 and survived a subsequent referendum in 2014 — benefits all Alaska families. In support, they claim that “more production means more oil rights – which means billions of dollars in direct deposits into the Permanent Fund.”
