Man appears in court for alleged public indecency at Glasgow Uni library

His trial is scheduled for 2025

A 26-year-old man has appeared in court following his arrest at the University of Glasgow library, where he was charged with alleged public indecency.

Police were called to the university building on Hillhead Street on Sunday afternoon, October 20, after reports of a man allegedly “commit an indecent act on himself.”

The man was subsequently arrested and appeared at Glasgow Sherriff Court on Tuesday, October 22, charged with public indecency and an offense under the Police and Fire Reform (Scotland) Act 2012. pleaded not guilty of both charges and has since been released on bail, with a trial date set for February 2025.

A spokesperson for the University of Glasgow confirmed that police had been contacted to deal with an ‘incident on university grounds’. add: “The safety and security of our employees and students is always our first priority.

“It is rare for employees to call the police for incidents on campus. However, sometimes it is necessary to call authorities for the safety of people in our community, or for the well-being of those involved in an incident.”

This incident has drawn attention to campus security and reinforces the University’s commitment to the well-being of its students and staff.
