See which five Southwest Ohio girls soccer teams won the regional championships on Saturday

Regional championships in Ohio High School Athletic Association high school football will be held this weekend.

Saturday featured six games involving teams from Southwest Ohio. In Division I, Mason and Seton faced each other at Lakota East, and Springboro played Upper Arlington at Sunbury Big Walnut. Loveland and Mount Notre Dame clashed in a DII final in Beavercreek. Badin and Butler were playing for a DIII title in Miamisburg. Madeira faced Xenia Legacy Christian in Division V in Springfield. Summit Country Day and Waynesville faced off in a battle of recent state champions in a DIV final in Princeton.

All winners will advance to the state semifinals at neutral sites.

DV: Madeira Amazons defeated Xenia Legacy Christian

Madeira (17-1-2) defeated Xenia Legacy Christian (13-7) 6-0 to advance to the state semifinals. Anna Cornejo scored three goals for the Amazons. Vivian Momper, Natasha Davis and Olivia Naegeli also contributed one goal each.

On Tuesday, Nov. 5, Madeira will face Minford (17-3), which defeated Grandview Heights (16-4-1) 1-0 earlier today, in the state semifinals. It is the fifth time in school history that Madeira has reached the state tournament. The Amazons also made it last year. In 2010, they defeated Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown 2-1 in overtime to win the Division II state championship.

DII: Loveland Tigers win thriller against Mount Notre Dame

After two overtimes, Loveland (12-4-3) and Mount Notre Dame (12-2-5) were still tied, so their regional final went to penalty kicks. After one round of that they were tied at 3-3. Ultimately, after the second round of penalty kicks, Loveland came out on top, winning the regional final and advancing to the state semifinals.

The Tigers will take on the winner of North Royalton (11-5-4) and Hudson (16-2) on Tuesday, November 5 at 7 p.m. It’s the second time Loveland has made the state tournament in girls soccer and the first since 2017, when the Tigers defeated Perrysburg in the state finals.

DIII: Badin Rams falls 3-1 to Vandalia Butler Aviators

The Rams (13-4-3) dropped the regional final 3-1 to Vandalia Butler (16-5), ending their state title hopes.

Butler never made it to the state tournament. On Tuesday, November 5, the Aviators will play Medina Highland (19-1-1), which defeated Celina (15-2-4) 6-0 earlier today. Badin still hasn’t made the state tournament since 2014, when the Rams won their second straight state championship.

TU: Springboro Panthers drop Upper Arlington 2-1

Springboro (19-1-1) defeated Upper Arlington (18-2-1) 2-1 on Saturday to advance to the OHSAA Division I state semifinals. Junior Hailey Burns and senior Tessa Blain scored the goals for the victors.

On Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m., the Panthers will play Seton (13-6-1), which defeated Mason 1-0 earlier today to win its third straight regional final. It’s the first time Springboro has made the state tournament since 2016, when the team lost to Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit in the state championship game.

TU: Seton wins Region 4 over Mason, 1-0

Seton won a regional championship for the third straight season, defeating Mason 1-0 at Lakota East. Seton, 14-6-1, will meet the winner of Springboro/Upper Arlington in the state semifinals Tuesday night in Xenia. Mason finishes at 14-5-2.

Seton freshman Mary Jung scored her eighth goal of the season with 27 minutes left in the second half to give the Saints a 1-0 lead over Mason. Seton, the 2022 Division I state champion, lost in the state semifinals last year.

DIV: Summit Country Day Silver Knights advanced to state tournament after win over Waynesville

Summit Country Day (20-1-1) defeated Waynesville (17-4-0) 3-0 to secure a regional championship and a spot in the state semifinals. Junior Mia Stevens, who finished second in the Miami Valley Conference with 20 goals this season, scored two for the Silver Knights. Sophomore Abigayle Penote scored the other.

Summit Country Day will take on Worthington Christian (17-4-2), which defeated St. Clairsville (14-6-1) 3-0 earlier today in the state semifinals. This will be Summit Country Day’s seventh appearance in the state tournament. The Silver Knights won their fourth state championship last year, having previously won in 2011, 2015 and 2017.
