Man appears in court charged with murder after woman was ‘stabbed to death’ in Glasgow

A man has appeared in court charged with murder following the death of a woman following a disturbance in Glasgow.

James McCrindle allegedly attacked and killed 40-year-old Sandie Butler in Townhead on October 29.

Court papers show the 53-year-old “struggled with” Ms Butler and “hit her on the body with a knife or similar object”.

Mrs Butler was found seriously injured in the area of St Mungo Avenue and died a short time later.

Tributes were paid to Mrs Butler after her death was announced.

Charmain Hunter said: “Not Sandie, she was such a nice person. I met her the day she came to Ness and have kept in touch ever since.

“Oh doll, my heart breaks for your pet. RIP Sandie, until we meet on the other side.”

‘I’m so sorry to hear this. I will never forget the help you gave my sister. My thoughts are with your family and friends at this sad time,” said Lorraine Grant.

McCrindle did not enter a plea to the murder charge during a closed hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday.

He was represented by his lawyer Marco Guarino.

The 53-year-old was taken into custody and committed for further investigation by Sheriff Allan McKau.

McCrindle, a member of the city’s Townhead, will appear in court again within the next eight days.
