1 man dies in Preston crash

PRESTON, CT (WFSB) – A single-vehicle crash left a man dead in Preston.

State police identified the victim as 78-year-old Frederick Coonan of North Grosvenordale.

Troopers said they were dispatched to the crash in the area of Route 164 and Deerbrook Road on Sunday around 8:10 p.m.

They said Coonan left the roadway by crossing the southbound lane and driving onto the shoulder. He traveled a short distance on the shoulder before crashing into a tree.

The vehicle spun due to the impact.

Coonan was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police. He was the only person in the vehicle.
