Two area residents killed in crash in Alberta Friday: RCMP

Police say a pickup truck with two occupants drove over a patch of ice on the road, causing the vehicle to lose control and collide with an oncoming semi-truck

Two Barrie residents were killed Friday in a head-on collision on icy roads near Waskatenau, Alta., northeast of Edmonton.

A 51-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man died at the scene of the collision on Highway 831, in the area of ​​the North Saskatchewan River Bridge, about five kilometers south of the community of Waskatenau, mid-morning on November 1. 1.

RCMP say a pickup truck with two occupants drove over a patch of ice on the road, causing their vehicle to lose control and collide with an oncoming semi-truck. Police have not released any details about the truck driver’s injuries.

“No names will be released,” said Const. Cory Riggs, public information officer with the Alberta RCMP media group, said in an email. “They are Barrie residents.”

Smoky Lake and Fort Saskatchewan RCMP extended their condolences to the families, friends and loved ones affected by the crash.
