Salem’s new police chief will be formally sworn in Monday evening

Salem’s new Police Chief Susan Miller will be formally sworn into her new position during Monday night’s City Council meeting.

Miller takes over for retiring Chief Kyle Ambuehl, who will remain active in safety work. Miller served her entire 26-year career with the Salem Police Department and most recently served as deputy chief.

Prior to the city council meeting, there will be a meet and greet for Miller on Monday evening at 5:30 p.m.

The city council will also hold a second reading on the 2024 property tax levy for the 2025 property tax bills. The city’s financial director is asking for an increase of 3.99 percent.

Mayor Nick Farley is expected to appoint Ivy Balla to the Historical Commission.

The municipality is asked to collect surplus telephones from the old telephone system. They will be marketed and sold online.

A closed session has been scheduled to discuss staffing.

The meeting begins Monday evening at 6 o’clock at Salem City Hall.
