Mississippi high school student killed when her vehicle crashed into a tree

CORINTH, Miss. (WLBT) – A car crash claimed the life of a high school student in Mississippi.

According to local authorities, officers responded to the call around 7:30 a.m. Monday.

The sheriff’s office said the teen, Callie Pounders, a student at Corinth High School, was driving when she ran off the road.

Pounders then corrected while trying to get back on the road and crashed into a tree.

She was taken to Magnolia Regional Health Center, where she died.

The Corinth School District released a statement Monday morning.

“In times like these, we must continue to come together and support each other as the community of Corinth,” the statement said.

The school district will have counselors available to assist students and staff for the rest of the week.
