Driver killed in weekend off-road crash identified

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – A driver has been identified after he was killed while driving off-road last weekend.

Mitchell Bowens, 26, died on Nov. 2 around 11:55 p.m. on Woodsdale Road, according to the Butler County Coroner’s Office.

Butler County Sheriff Richard previously said deputies and the Madison Township Fire and Life Squad were called to the single-vehicle crash around 11 p.m. that evening.

Preliminary investigation shows that the driver of a black Jeep, now identified by the coroner as Bowens, was driving off-road when the vehicle went over an embankment, causing it to overturn, Sheriff Jones explained.

There were two occupants in the Jeep, the driver and the passenger.

Sheriff Jones said the driver, Bowens, was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger was taken to the hospital, but is expected to be OK.

Bowens’ cause of death was a compression injury, the coroner announced Monday.

It is unclear whether drugs, alcohol or speed played a role in the crash.

The crash is still under investigation.
