Penn state confirmed on monday, november 4 that university police and public safety are investigating the moment the former NFL star, 36, smashed phone from a heckler who appeared to be calling Kelce’s brother Travis a homophobic slur.

The university did not specify whether they were investigating Jason, the football fan, or how the incident occurred.

PEOPLE has reached out to representatives from both Jason and ESPN.

Jason, who was on campus for an appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay during the Penn State-Ohio State game, can be seen in multiple videos posted to social media surrounded by fans as he walked into the stadium carrying a case of beer.

In now viral images shared on X (formerly Twitter)see the football fan approach Jason and ask, “Hey, Kelce. How does it feel that your brother is dating a f—– Taylor Swift?” the man asked, using the slur to refer to Travis, 35, who has been dating Swift, 34, since 2023.

Seconds later, Jason turned around, grabbed the man’s phone from his hands, and slammed him onto the ground. The NFL alum then stood in front of the man and said, “Who the f—– now?” while other people seemed to intervene.

The owner of the phone, who was wearing a Penn State hoodie at the time of the incident, could be seen walking close behind him and apparently recording Jason before the altercation occurred.

“It looked like a Penn State student got in Kelce’s face for no reason,” the first X user to post the clip wrote alongside it. “Wild scene in State College.”
