Officers track down Mesa shooting suspect in Tempe

TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) – A suspect who opened fire on a man in Mesa was tracked and located in a Tempe neighborhood Monday, investigators said.

The shooting took place on Holmes Avenue, near Gilbert Road and US 60 Superstition Freewayaround 2:30 p.m

Officers found a man shot and he was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Witnesses said they saw a driver in a black SUV leaving the area.

Officers said they received a description of the SUV and the Mesa Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center discovered the driver entered the highway westbound on US 60.

Officers located the suspect and arrested that person in the area of ​​McClintock Drive and Guadalupe Road.

Video from that scene shows it appears police had to use police a Grappler to get the SUV fuses.

It is unclear what led to the shooting.

No names have been released.

Police say this is an isolated incident and they are not looking for any additional suspects.
