Suspects of WinCo theft in connection with the armed robbery and shooting by AmPm in Redding

REDDING, California – A 20-year-old man was arrested in Redding after pulling a gun on a WinCo Foods employee and robbing a man at gunpoint at an AmPm on Sunday, November 3, 2024.

The Redding Police Department (RPD) said their officers responded around 2 a.m. to reports of two male subjects stealing alcohol. When confronted by a WinCo employee, police said one of the suspects immediately pulled a gun from his waist, abruptly ending the confrontation. Both suspects then fled the scene in a Kia Soul.

Then, around 3 a.m., RPD said their officers were dispatched to the AmPmgas station on Lake Boulevard for a report of a person firing a gun in the parking lot. The suspects fled before officers arrived, but RPD said a victim was robbed of his belongings at the scene by a man who fired a gun during the incident.

Video surveillance from both stores confirmed they were the same suspects in the WinCo and AmPm robberies.

RPD said the shooter has been identified as 20-year-old Winfield Andrew Hansen of Redding.

Around 10:40 a.m. the next day, RPD said three individuals were observed entering the Kia Soul. Police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The shooting suspect, Hansen, was not present in the Kia at the time of the traffic stop. Police said 18-year-old William St. Louis was publicly arrested for possession of a loaded firearm, although police said he was not involved in the robberies.

Hansen was later located by police as he fled an apartment complex on Masonic Avenue and came across a nearby green area with another man. RPD said that, with the assistance of Officer Kofford and K-9 Miko, both Hansen and a juvenile hid in brush in the Green Belt. Hansen was in possession of a 9mm handgun at the time of his arrest, police said.

Police said the 17-year-old juvenile was treated at Shasta Regional Medical Center for injuries sustained during his arrest. He was booked into Shasta County Juvenile Hall for his involvement in the first robbery of WinCo.

According to police, Hansen confessed to his involvement in both robberies. He was booked into the Shasta County Jail for two counts of robbery, assault with a firearm on a person, negligent discharge of a firearm, resisting arrest, possession of a firearm with a serial number removed and carrying a loaded firearm in public.

“The Redding Police Department will continue to aggressively apprehend individuals involved in gun violence within our community,” RPD said.
