A Saraland shooting victim is charged with killing his girlfriend, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office

SARALAND, Ala. (WALA) – According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, a man was shot during a Gunfight in Saraland on October 31 is now wanted for the alleged murder of his girlfriend.

On October 31, Saraland Police Chief JC West told FOX10 News that the US Marshals Task Force was searching for a Florida individual charged with murder.

OCSO said they have identified the subject as Jorge Quintero, who is now wanted for allegedly killing his girlfriend, 29-year-old Carmen Elsa Escalante Carrera.

Officers said they first responded to Quintero’s Florida home on Oct. 29 after family members reported he was suicidal. When they arrived, Quintero and his girlfriend were both missing.

Detectives tracked Quintero to Alabama, where he was found Thursday in the parking lot of a Saraland shopping center. U.S. Marshals confronted him there, leading to a shootout that left Quintero seriously injured and hospitalized.

OCSO told FOX10 News that hours after the shooting, Georgia authorities found an object they suspected contained a body.

The body found by Georgian authorities this weekend was determined to be Quintero’s girlfriend Carrera.

Orange County detectives are in the process of obtaining a first-degree murder warrant for Quintero, who remains hospitalized in critical condition.
