BROADCAST TRANSCRIPT:

A man stole laptops and tablets from a school in Quincy, and school administrators watched the whole thing unfold through this camera. I’m Ashley Engle, your community reporter. I discover what consequences this has for the school, not only financially but also mentally.

“You feel violated.”

Latanya Moultry is a teacher and parent at North Florida Education Services.

The school where this man broke into and stole electronics.

“This is a safe place for kids to come, this is safe for them, they can come and roll around.”

Abbie Hurst is the owner of the school.

She says the school specializes in supporting students with special needs.

Along with offering mental health care.

“This man violated us, he came into a place where he wasn’t welcome; he wasn’t allowed, and he broke our stuff and took some stuff, and he walked around freely and that’s not okay.”

Hurst says she saw this all happen through this camera last Friday morning.

The man broke this window…

…to enter the school.

He then walked on and took 2 tablets and 2 laptops.

Hurst says their front door has a lock to ensure the children don’t leave the building.

The man opened the door and continued searching.

“I just don’t want my students or their families to feel like their safe place is no longer safe. That is my main concern.”

No arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon. As for the equipment, the school plans to replace it.

“He may have stolen our equipment, but he didn’t take that warmth, love and protection away from the children.”
