Coroner identifies cyclist killed in Halloween night crash in Hollywood area

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – The Charleston County coroner has released the name of the Hollywood man who was killed Thursday night when his bicycle was struck by a vehicle.

Gregg Edwards, 66, died at the scene of the crash near New Road at about 7:14 p.m., coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal said. Edwards died of blunt force injuries suffered in the crash, O’Neal said.

Officers responded to New Road and Chad Lane in Hollywood for a reported collision just after 7 p.m., sheriff’s spokesperson Alexis Douglas said.

Investigators say a car traveling east on New Road struck the cyclist traveling in the same direction, sending the cyclist into a ditch.

Witnesses attempted life-saving measures while waiting for emergency services, but the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies say anyone with information about this incident that could assist the investigation should call them at 843-202-1700.
