Weapons seen at protest near Hindu temple in Brampton, Peel police say

Peel police issued a public safety alert Monday evening saying weapons were seen during a demonstration near a Hindu temple in Brampton.

Residents were warned to stay away from the demonstration on The Gore Road near Tyler Avenue. The area is close to the Hindu Sabha Mandir Temple.

In the alert on X, formerly Twitter, police said the weapons were spotted in the crowd. Police said a public order unit had been deployed to the area.

“This is now an unlawful assembly and we will clear the area,” police said at X.

Police said members of the public order unit advised people at the demonstration to disperse.

“All parties must now leave the area or face arrest,” police added.

A CBC photographer saw a protester kick a car as he tried to cross the intersection of Gore Road and Don Minaker Drive after the driver honked at the crowd.

The crowd had blocked traffic after walking out of the temple.

The demonstration comes hours after police announced Monday that three men have been charged following violence in Brampton and Mississauga on Sunday. Police said violence broke out between groups of protesters during a series of demonstrations in those two cities.

Those demonstrations took place outside the same Hindu temple where the protest took place on Monday evening, as well as at a Sikh gurdwara.
