Jameson Williams 'ready to roll' after suspension - Macomb Daily

The Detroit Lions offense will welcome back Jameson Williams, who returns after serving his two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy.

Dan Campbell said the former first-round pick has been participating in meetings and has been at the practice facility in recent weeks.

Although Williams was unable to practice or participate in games, he remained involved with the 7-1 team.

Now that he returns, the expectation is that he will join the talented group, practice hard and perform at a high level every week.

‘He’s been here. He couldn’t be at training, but he was here training, we had him running. He’s at the meetings and stuff like that, so he’s actually been here,” Campbell said. ‘To be honest, I’ll throw it back in. He goes. Let’s go. So we kick him out with the foul and let him go. I expect him to be ready to get started.”

With their dominant performance in poor weather, the Lions were able to confirm that they were more than just an ‘umbrella team’ that couldn’t handle playing outside.

In fact, many fans and pundits walked away from the Lions’ win wondering if the Packers were the team to actually play their home games at an outdoor venue.

“I really believe we can play anywhere and with any type of element,” Campbell told reporters. “We can play indoors, we can play with a big crowd, we can play when it’s COVID season again and no one is there. I just think that’s the way we are, that’s the way this team is, that’s the kind of guys we have, that’s the kind of coaches we have. That’s part of our culture, that’s part of our identity.

“So I would say it’s satisfying to be able to – to know that you can go and do that,” Campbell continued. “And I feel like (Jared) Goff made a comment about him being like a chameleon. I think that’s very true. I think we can play any type of game we need to play depending on where you are, who the opponent is, the environment, everything. I think we can win in a lot of different ways, and that’s a good thing.”

Grid moves

The Lions announced that the team had waived both defensive lineman Chris Smith and linebacker Abraham Beauplan.

Detroit’s roster changes leave two open roster positions. One of those is expected to be filled by the returning Williams. The reason why the other spot was left open has yet to be determined.
