Two students died in a road accident on the Sohna Elevated Expressway

Two students were killed and three others seriously injured in a high-speed accident on the Sohna Elevated Expressway on Monday morning.

The incident took place when a speeding car carrying the students lost control, broke through the divider and collided with another vehicle. A motorcyclist was also involved, who crashed into the car and landed on the hood of a third car.

The accident caused major traffic jams on the highway. After much effort, a crane was brought in to clear the wreckage and the injured were taken to a civilian hospital. The Bhondsi police station is investigating the incident.

Police said the deceased were identified as Daksh (19) from Ghitorni, Delhi and Akshat (19) from Nathupur, Gurugram. Dhruv (19) from Ghitorni, Delhi, Mohit (34) from Sohna and Ishwar (38) from Palwal were injured.

According to police reports, Daksh, Akshat and Dhruv were first-year BA students at a private college in Sohna. On Monday morning, Daksh picked Akshat up in his car and they went to college. Akshat was traveling at high speed when the car, after passing the Ghamroj toll, lost control, uprooted a street lamp post near Alipur and collided head-on with a Honda City. Daksh and Akshat died on the spot, while Dhruv sustained serious injuries.

Meanwhile, Ishwar, the motorcyclist behind the Honda City, was also involved in the crash and was thrown several meters and landed on the bonnet of a car. Amit, a passenger in the Honda City, suffered serious injuries and Ishwar suffered broken bones in his arm and leg.

Kunal, a resident of Ghitorni, spoke of the close friendship between the three young men, who had gone to school together. He noted that Daksh was the only brother among four sisters and his death has left the family in mourning.

A Gurugram police spokesperson confirmed that traffic on Sohna road was disrupted due to the incident. Police said they are working to obtain Dhruv’s statement to understand the circumstances surrounding the accident, adding that an FIR has been lodged at Bhondsi police station.
