Delhi: Two, including Delhi police officer, killed in DTC bus accident | Latest News Delhi

Two persons, including a Delhi police officer, were killed after a speeding DTC bus hit them in north Delhi on Monday evening.

Police said the officer was on patrol when the accident occurred near the Monastery Market around 10:30 p.m.

“We had received a number of PCR calls regarding the DTC bus accident that resulted in two fatalities. Outside the Kloostermarkt we discovered that an uncontrolled DTC bus was driving on the sidewalk. It first rammed and broke a billboard pole. Then two people were hit. The bus later crossed the road and collided with a divider,” said Raja Banthia, DCP (North).

The victims, Officer Victor (who goes by a single name) and the unidentified civilian were taken to nearby hospitals, where doctors pronounced them dead.

Police said Victor, a native of Nagaland, was posted at Civil Lines police station since June this year.

“He was patrolling on a PCR bike. We are trying to get details about the second deceased,” an officer said.

The suspected driver was arrested on the spot. Kumar has been working with the DTC since 2010. The bus was traveling from Sarai Kale Khan to Nand Nagri area.

“The bus broke down and there was no passenger on the bus. Legal action is being drawn into the case,” the DCP added.
